ABOUT THE ARTIST
Alex Sayer is an artist, wife, and mother of two living in Chester County, PA. She has always seen herself in a creative career and started pursuing art professionally after she left her job to care for her young children. In the early days of her art career, she was involved with the Philly street art scene. Motivated by the political climate and a need to have her voice heard, she put her bright colorful designs on the streets of Philadelphia. This gained the interest of local news blog, Billy Penn, for her “Lipstick Labels” sticker series, and of local public art guru, Conrad Benner of Streets Dept. for many of her stickers and wheatpastes.
As her kids grew older, she turned her focus to her family. Instead of “me” time exploring in the city, she relied on yoga and her home studio to ease the stresses of motherhood. She began creating art devoted to her journey with yoga, and the appreciation for life she learned from its practice.
Currently, she is inspired by the symbolism used throughout the world to represent elements of our social and natural worlds that, unlike language, can be universally understood. This led to her passion for block printing and carving her own stamps, which can be seen in her use of repeated motifs throughout her work. Alex’s mission is to create works of art that evoke a universal sense of connection with one another, our ancient ancestors, and the natural world, while also honoring her own need to create with varying levels of control and intuition. Her work can be seen at The Center yoga studio in Downingtown, LOCAL Yoga Cafe in West Chester and The Common Room in Fishtown.
